Teaching the Intent of the Text by Randy Widbin

All of us have experienced those awkward moments when we have been in a group Bible study only to have someone ask a question like, “So, what does this passage mean to you?” Or we have been at that graduation party where someone shares the familiar words of God’s promise from the prophet Jeremiah, “I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you…” but fails to mention that God makes that promise to Judah who was about to face seventy years of exile.

These situations can easily wander away from God’s intent for Scripture. How can we be sure that we get the message that He intended? Bible Pathways is ReachGlobal’s training for church leaders around the world to read, study, and teach God’s Word the way we all like to be understood—with the original intent of its author.

And now, that training is coming to our Fall Teaching Conference at Camp Shamineau on October 4-6, 2026.

Bible Pathways will teach you how to make good observations in God’s Word, how to understand a text through the lens of the whole story of the Bible, and how to summarize the message that God has for us today. This is a series of workshops designed for church leaders to do faithful Word work in a way that takes seriously God’s desire for us to understand His original intent.

Join with other North Central District church leaders at our Pre and Post Conference Bible Pathways Workshop at this year’s Fall Teaching Conference. The workshop will focus on Psalms and how to read and understand Hebrew poetry and understand the Psalms within the context of the whole story of the Bible. The workshop will begin on Sunday evening at 6:00 P.M. and conclude following our final session on Tuesday afternoon.

Whether you are a pastor of a Free Church in the district looking to sharpen your own Word skills or you are a church leader looking for a resource that you can use on your own mission opportunities, Bible Pathways is a resource for your own development as well as your global impact for God’s Kingdom. Many of your fellow church leaders are using Bible Pathways as part of their mission work throughout the world. Matt Baker, one of our pastors at Bethel EFC in Fairmont said, “All our global partners need Bible Pathways to equip them to be faithful communicators of God’s Word.” The result of Matt’s conviction is that Bethel’s Go Team is now training church leaders in Belize and endeavoring to connect Pathways workshops with mission contacts in the Russian-speaking world.

Here is a Bible Pathways promise: you will enjoy sharpening your Word skills at one of our Bible Pathways workshops.
